Our club prioritizes the safety of both our members and the public and has decided to join Waterford City in raising awareness. Open water swimming provides incredible health benefits, but swimming during colder seasons carries additional risks. During the cold seasons, the risk of water-borne illnesses increases due to poorer water quality caused by heavier rainfall and reduced UV exposure. To stay safe, follow these essential tips: Never swim alone. Wear a bathing suit and a brightly colored swimming cap for visibility. Know your limits and avoid pushing beyond them....

DESC is currently providing ’Taster Sessions’ to members and non-members alike. These classes were funded by Waterford Sports Partnership and are provided by DESC free of charge to the participants. The first block of 5 lessons started on 29th June and we are now well into the second block. The aim of the lessons is to provide an opportunity to people who have always wanted to try sea swimming. Instruction is given by committee member Ruth Whyte and she is assisted by a lifeguard from the Club panel. The feedback...
