National Swimming Strategy 2024-2027 - Dunmore East Swim Club
Dunmore East Swim Club is thrilled to see the launch of Ireland's first-ever National Swimming Strategy 2024-2027. Swimming is Ireland’s second most popular participation sport and has the potential to be truly inclusive for all in society.
We will be breaking it down into three articles, each focusing on key aspects that matter most to our swimmers, coaches, and community.
- Introduction of National Swimming Strategy 2024-2027
- Open Water Swimming
- Dunmore East Swim Club (This article)
We are delighted that Swim Ireland has recognized the contribution of Dunmore East Swim Club, and we are honored to be included in the National Swimming Strategy.
At DESC, we prioritize enjoyment and the social aspects of swimming. We have seen firsthand how a community-led approach can transform access to swimming. Our club was founded by a group of passionate swimmers with the aim of expanding open water opportunities, promoting safety, and fostering a welcoming environment for everyone.
With the support of Swim Ireland and government grants, we have been able to grow participation, introduce training programs, and improve local swimming infrastructure. Initiatives such as inclusivity-focused events, safety workshops, taster sessions, Sanctuary Swimmers, and swimming lessons have strengthened our club’s role within the community.
We are especially excited about the Strategy’s commitment to supporting clubs, ensuring that funding, facility development, and coaching pathways remain key priorities. As we continue to grow, we look forward to collaborating with national and local partners to make open water swimming more accessible and enjoyable for all.
